From Kenosha to Ashland, educators and citizens throughout Wisconsin are planning menus and discussions for their part in the largest mobilization for public schools ever. On September 22, educators and citizens will gather at "house parties" to discuss education issues as part of the National Mobilization for Great Public Schools. The nationwide non-partisan mobilization is led by a coalition of pro-public education groups, including WEAC and the National Education Association. More than 3,000 parties are being hosted in living rooms, libraries, schools and community centers across the nation to discuss the successes, challenges and opportunities in our public education system. Nearly 60 parties are scheduled in Wisconsin. Visit www.greatpublicschools.org to find a party in your area. "Every kid deserves a great school," WEAC President Stan Johnson said. "And in the modern economy, education is the key to success. To meet this challenge, we are asking Americans – parents, concerned citizens, education professionals and students – to participate in these thoughtful discussions about the future of our schools and our children." Johnson said house parties are a great way to raise consciousness and encourage involvement around education issues. "They are an excellent
way to explain critical issues to many people at once, allowing them to
ask questions and get the information they want," he said. "At
the end of the day, we want attendees to feel empowered to join with thousands
of others from across the country, take action, and vote." |
